How to determine my netwark adapter ?

    I have recently installed windows XP in my Compaq Presario CQ40 laptop. Problem is, I don't know what the network hardware is and therefore I can't download proper software/driver for this. I know it's Realtek but don't know the model. How can I know this ?

    Try this:
    1. Press [WinKey]+[Pause/Break] to bring up System Properties.

    2. Click the "Hardware tab ", then the "Device Manager" button.

    3. Scroll down and click the plus sign ( "+ ") to the left of "Network Adapters ".


    Notes: The [WinKey] is the key with the Windows logo on it. It's usually to the left of the [Spacebar] between the [Ctrl] and [Alt] keys.

    The [Pause/Break] key is usually somewhere up above the [Insert] [Home] and [Page Up] keys, next to [ScrLk] (Scroll Lock) or [PrtScn] (Print Screen).

    Unfortunately, this won't tell you what the adapter is unless its drivers are installed. It will just list "network adapter" or "unknown device ".
