    [Inactive] Laptop check up

Hello my good friends, David here. I am back for my annual check up from the computer doctor's such as yourselves. I am in my last years of pre-requisites for a grad program so I am on my laptop quite frequently typing reports and papers. Lately it has been buggy and slowish at times. I have received great help from here many times in the past from good people like Broni and others. The help is always much appreciated.

I have read the forum rules are here all the logs that are required. Anything else needed, just ask. Thanks and hope to hear from you all soon once again my friends. :)

    I don't see anything suspicious.

    Any current issues?

    1. Download Security Check from HERE, and save it to your Desktop.
    • Double-click SecurityCheck.exe
    • Follow the onscreen instructions inside of the black box.
    • A Notepad document should open automatically called checkup.txt; please post the contents of that document.

NOTE SecurityCheck may produce some false warning(s), so leave the results reading to me.

    2. Download Temp File Cleaner (TFC)
    • Double click on TFC.exe to run the program.
    • Click on Start button to begin cleaning process.
    • TFC will close all running programs, and it may ask you to restart computer.

    3. Please run a free online scan with the ESET Online Scanner

    • Disable your antivirus program
    • Tick the box next to YES, I accept the Terms of Use
    • Click Start
    • Accept any security warnings from your browser.
    • Check Scan archives
    • Click Start

No real issues really that I can think about. Just at times when I am typing or surfing the web, my laptop will be lagging at times and fall behind or stall. I did not know what to think of it so I came here to the professionals. I know that I am using about 1/2 of my memory. When I run task manager to look at my current running performance, it says my physical memory use is a little above 50%, 2.49 gig out of 4. Could this be the issue why my laptop has slowed?

Anyways here are the 3 logs you requested. Thanks for the quick reply as always, great service and help here.

    That RAM usage is normal.
Windows Vista and 7 handle RAM in different way than XP.
If you had high CPU usage that's a different story.

I assume you're using Internet Explorer?
    Did you try different browser?

    Also....

    1. Update your Java version here: http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp

Note 1: UNCHECK any pre-checked toolbar and/or software offered with the Java update. The pre-checked toolbars/software are not part of the Java update.

Note 2: The Java Quick Starter (JQS.exe) adds a service to improve the initial startup time of Java applets and applications. If you don't want to run another extra service, go to Start > Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Miscellaneous and uncheck the box for Java Quick Starter. Click OK and restart your computer.

    2. Now, we need to remove old Java version and its remnants...

Download JavaRa to your desktop and unzip it to its own folder
    • Run JavaRa.exe (Vista users! Right click on JavaRa.exe, click Run As Administrator), pick the language of your choice and click Select. Then click Remove Older Versions.
    • Accept any prompts.

    ====================================================

    Update Adobe Reader

You can download it from http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
After installing the latest Adobe Reader, uninstall all previous versions (if present).
Note. If you already have Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition installed or do not wish to have it installed UNcheck the box which says Also Download Adobe Photoshop® Album Starter Edition.

Alternatively, you can uninstall Adobe Reader (33.5 MB), download and install Foxit PDF Reader(3.5MB) from HERE.
It's a much smaller file to download and uses a lot less resources than Adobe Reader.
Note: When installing FoxitReader, make sure to UN-check any pre-checked toolbar, or any other garbage.

Okay updated java and adobe from the links you provided.

Only issue was Javara, ran it and when it prompted to remove all previous versions of Java, a log file was created and displayed nothing. I guess I have no old java software that needs to be removed.

As of now, everything seems to be running fine, my laggy online surfing must be due to my pathetic 1.5 mb DSL connections.

Anyways, thanks again brother for always being there for us cpu noobies.

Not steping on Broni's toes here, as I am not an expert on these logs, but I noticed that you are using IE8. Should update it to IE9 as it is more secure.

Nope that is a wrong statement. Some sites do require IE and IE only. Update it even if you don't use it.

    The main point is this...
Internet Explorer is a part of Windows so as such it should be kept up to date no matter if you use it or not.
