I just installed a HD video card into my Dell Desktop system. It's connected via the HDMI output on the new card to the HDMI input on the monitor. The card has to be installed correctly since I can see windows desktop via the HDMI input on the monitor. My issue is that the "found new hardware wizard" did not appear. Can I still go ahead and install the software?

Previous graphics for this system was the onboard graphics so there was no old card to remove.

P.S. I downloaded the latest drivers for this card from the manufacturer's website. Should I install the CD software (which came with the card) first or simply use the new downloaded file?

I'd install the drivers that came with the CD and if you have any issues try the downloaded drivers.

Hi AceH. I actually find that installing the latest drivers from the manufacturers website the way to go since drivers on the CD's are typically somewhat out of date.

But as wildfire suggested start off with installing the drivers from the CD. If you run into issues you can always install a more updated version of the driver online.

The reason I suggested that route Evan is you're never entirely sure if the correct drivers were downloaded. The fact that AceH had to ask does suggest a lack of experience.

I'm sure the drivers I downloaded are the correct drivers. I'm more hesitant about installing the CD version because I'm running Win VISTA Home Edition and the CD version may be a bit old since my Dell system is about 4 or 5 years old and the graphics card for this system is pretty old. I installed a VisionTeck HD4350 #900289 (Slim Factor)

    Dell Inspiron 530S (Slim Factor)
    Win VISTA Home Edition

The CD came with the card Yes? If so the age of your existing system is irrelevant.

The video card won't detect my monitor. Device Manager lists the monitor as Generic PNP but it's a Samsung P2370HD LCD Monitor. Before the installation of the card, the correct monitor was listed in Device Manager. How do I fix this issue?

It isn't really an issue, what symptoms other than a generic monitor driver are you seeing (eg Resolution etc)?

I can't do any of the HD display settings without the desktop going off the screen. Icons are partially visible and the taskbar is below the screen.

I have it set under Basic setting 1680x1050 because of the problems I have if I use any of the HDTV settings. This card allows for settings under Basic and HDTV.

What happens if you lower the resolution?

OK. I have now resolved the problem. As this is my first HD Graphics Card and Digital Monitor, there are a LOT of configuration options for this graphics card, MANY, MANY options. I went through several and came across a "scaling" funciton which corrected the problem.

Thanks to all who helped with this issue.

I tried another option which appears to work a bit better as far as the overall screen appearance. I returned the "scaling" option back to it's original setting. From my monitor's picture menu I used "stretch to fit" as opposed to leaving it in 16:9 format. Since there was a minute bit of stretching to do, it looks slightly, just slightly better.

After a few days with the new card, I decided to go back to my original fix "scaling" option that's located within the software adjustments. This method does in fact give a better quality view for Internet text.
