I was given a Gateway PC recently, and when I got it it had AOL installed.I removed the AOL stuff, but when I click on a link in my email, instead of defaulting to Internet Explorer,a window informs me that "AOL.exe not found ".My question is:how do I get the links to go to IE instead of the now defunct AOL file? Thanks in advance...

    In IE, look in tools->options->programs->email

Brett,I wouldn't know how to check that, and Steve, all that does is set my email to Outlook Express, the problem is that when I click a mail link,it wants to use AOL,which I deleted(for the most part),and I want it to automatically use IE.

Sorry. Open IE and click Tools - Internet Options - Programs and make sure that the "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is the default browser" box is checked. If it isn't, check it and then close and restart IE. When restarting, you'll be prompted to make IE the default.

If Brett's idea doesn't work, then it's going to be a file association issue.

Okay,I tried that,no change. The popup I get says "Windows cannot find aol.exe.This program is needed for opening files of type URL:Hyper Text Transfer Protocol "It then requests the location of aol.exe.

Go into your Folder Options and associate all the URL shortcuts with Internet Explorer!

    Detailed directions from MS KB:

"Windows XP Home Edition and Windows XP Professional

Click Start, point to All Programs, click Accessories, and then click Windows Explorer.
Click Tools menu, click Folder Options, and then click File Types.
In the Registered File Types box, click URL:File Transfer Protocol, and then click Advanced.
In the Actions box, click Open, and then click Edit.
The Application Used To Perform Action box may display the path to your Web browser as a short file name. Type the path to your Web browser using the full long file name. For example, change:

    c:\progra~1\intern~1\iexplore.exe

    -to-

    c:\program files\internet explorer\iexplore.exe (include the quotation marks).

Click OK, click OK again, and then click Close.
Repeat steps 3-6 for the following registered file types:
    URL:Gopher Protocol
    URL:Hypertext Transfer Protocol
    URL:Hypertext Transfer protocol with Privacy
    Click Close. "

Okay, here's where it stands now,and thanks to you all for your time.I have the file I need to put in place of the AOL default(iexplore.exe),and last night I did find the place it's supposed to go,it had the AOL.exe file names there, but I can't find it now(AAARRGGHH!!)So as of now,all I need is to be able to find that page again,I tried Folder Options, but all that does is list the file types,I need to be able to actually find the location where the file name would go.And just for informative purposes,I have Windows 98,not XP.Thanks again, you guys are great!!
