    I have an old steam-driven HP 5700 printer that I want to hook up for just a short term to use up the ink in it. I have had trouble with it in the past, trying to download the driver. It will partially download to a folder I have opened for it on the C drive and of the 4 files, one is supposed to be an exe file that initiates the program. Instead, I get an sfx file with the following information

    SFX: starting...
    SFX: extraction directory is 'C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp' (unless folderbrowse == true).
    SFX: unzip() params for the INI is 'C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\5700_enu_win2k_xpinfu.exe hpsfx.ini -dC:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp'.
    SFX: unzip()ing the INI...
    SFX: unzip() for the INI returned status code 0.
    SFX: INI file is 'C:\DOCUME~1\User\LOCALS~1\Temp\hpsfx.ini'
    SFX: folderbrowse is false.
    SFX: checking for usetemp.
    SFX: usetemp is false.
    SFX: extraction directory is 'C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop'.
    SFX: unzip() params for the main archive is 'C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\5700_enu_win2k_xpinfu.exe -dC:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop'.
    SFX: unzip()ing the main archive...
    SFX: unzip() for the main archive returned status code 0.
    SFX: autoexec executable is 'C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop\5700\enu\drivers\win2k_xp'.
    SFX: running autoexec executable (shellexecute())...
    SFX: ERROR: run failed with error code 2 (The system cannot find the file specified.

    ).
    SFX: cleanup.
    SFX: marking files for removal at reboot...
    SFX: removing INI file.
    SFX: exiting with status code -1.
    SFX: stop.

    I am running XP and IE8 and I am attempting to download the correct software for that OS.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    Use winzip or another extracter to unzip (don't execute) the executable and see what errors (if any) there are.
