Can't uninstall MS Office 97 Pro

I recently bought (secondhand) a Gateway Solo laptop. Because it doesn't have much space available on its hard drive I decided to uninstall MS Office 97 Pro (I'd never use it). Unfortunately my attempts were stopped with the message:

Setup cannot find the files on 'E:\' from which you originally installed the product.

So it appears that I need the original cd in order to delete this program. Can anyone suggest a way to get this program off my laptop since I don't have the original cd? I'm using W98. I'd be much obliged.

 

Unless somebody has a hack, you do need the original CD to remove it.

It does look like you'll need an Office 97 Pro CD unless, as RayH said, somebody comes along with a hack. It doesn't have to be the one used for the install so if you can borrow one, that'll work.

On the other hand, if you have the software that orginally shipped with the laptop containing the operating system and necessary drivers, you might be better off just reformatting and reinstalling.

 

Thanks, Miz, for that excellent link to the information about removing Office 97. I'm reviewing it now but, as RayH said, I suspect that I'll still need the Office cd. I'll just have to be patient until I've figured it out.

 

You mean there are actually Office 97 Cd's around. Only time I have ever seen them is when I didn't need them.

1. Download this http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=KB;en-us;q176823

2. Search/find microsoft*.* delete all references to Microsoft Office.

3. Run the Eraser97 program

4. Download RegCleaner http://www.vtoy.fi/jv16/shtml/regcleaner.shtml

Use it to clear the rest.
