Restore problems

I was having problems starting my HP Pavilion dv6 so I went to restore it to an earlier date in time. It went through all the phases but when it got to finalizing system restore it just stayed there for hours with the bar still moving as if it was still in the process. I am currently, and hopefully backing up all my files, docs and pics and hope that this works so then I can do a system recovery instead. Before I do this does anyone have an idea what else I can do and why the restore program won't finish finalizing?

 

how many dates show up in the restore... if more than one I would try another date and see if you have the same problem.
