I gather you're talking about the Vol icon in the taslbar, bottom right of your screen.
If so and assuming you still have sound, meaning your soundcard or integrated sound is installed and functioning, then go to the control panel and click on the sounds and multimedia tab and open it and tick the box that says "show the volume control on the taskbar. "

    I have the icon

I have the icon on the taskbar. I have been using my sound and mute key on the keyboard and it shows a status bar on screen which you can view to show you where the sound level is. Have any suggestion?

What brand is your Computer? It could be that the cfg.ini file of the Keyboard is missing or corrupt.

On my box (HP) that would be at C:\hp\KBD\CFG.INI and under the heading [OSD_MESSAGE] which stands for On Screen Display Message. I can edit the entries there and make it say whatever I choose or nothing at all, so that certainly makes it suspect in your problem.

Do the controls still function normally otherwise?

    I now have on-screen display

Thanks for helping, you were right. I couldn't think of the wording "On-Screen Display ". I went to C:\HP\KBD and I saw the file KBD.EXE. When I click on it, my display started working, so I realize it was in the start folder once and I delete it My question was answered fast, thanks Paul and Zephyr. I wouldn't have known.

Good! It actually should be started from the Registry. You will find the proper Registry Key at HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

In there you should see the String named KBD and the Value String, "C:\HP\KBD\KBD.EXE "

If not there, click Edit > New > String Value > and name it KBD. Then double click it and type C:\HP\KBD\KBD.EXE in the Value Data field.

Now you'll be all set as per standard and less likely have the Keyboard software disabled, like might happen if it's in the Start-up folder.

    Cheers! :)

    Your are right

Thanks Zephyr, you are 100% right. I did like you said and I also deleted it off my start folder again and restarted my computer and Bingo the On-Screen Display worked.
