Not sure if this is a correct Windows topic but I get no information from the browser support site(s).

Running XP. For my browser I use Firefox 6.0. Recently, since the introduction of 6.0 (and update) I am experiencing consistent problems w/ hanging connectivity issues to websites.

This occurs with many but not all websites (and there are no problems when I use IE). Sometimes a website is perfect and doesn't hang, later it will hang.

What happens: I attempt either to connect to a web site while on another site, or to another page of the same site I'm on, and consistently the browser hangs permanently, never connecting. Further I can't shut down Firefox either from Task Manager or File>Exit. I must restart the computer from Start>Shut Down and it takes around 5 minutes for the computer to shut down.

I've tried all the usual fixes: disabling add-ons, restarting browser in
Safe Mode, deleting cookies and history. No use. Started new profiles, restored all settings. No use.

Is there anything I need to do in XP to resolve this problem?

I have similar problems with Firefox 6 (Beta) in Windows 7, although I can close Firefox without much time lost.

I have had the same problem since I upgraded to firefox 6.0. I suspect Mozilla knows about it and will fix it soon. In the meantime I have been using other browsers like Google chrome & Safari with little problems only.

I have, never experienced any issue with Firefox 6.x. However, the latest version, 6.02, which you can get via incremental update may have fixed some problems. You can get 6.02 via incremental update Help|About Firefox, etc., if you don't allow it to update itself.
Since I don't know where you are from, I and you don't list any sites, I cannot give much help. There were issues with sites in the UK and the Netherlands, but not in the USA or Canada, which I visit.

    Mozilla 6.0.2

Have the latest updated version -- same problems, absolutely no change.

Have FF 6.0.2 installed on both Win XP SP3 and Win7 with no problems to date.

Can you list, at least, one of the troublesome sites?

I think I solved the problem -- finally. It was SpySweeper preventing loading of many sites. When IE started hanging I knew it wasn't Mozilla. I uninstalled SpySweeper and all the problems have thus far disappeared. Will update if they recur but now system completely different in speed and accessibility.

This was a tricky one, but knowing that Spy Sweeper was troublesome, I did a Search and came up with several hits, like this or this

There is also a program from comcast called "Constant Guard" that appears to causes hang-ups.
I help seniors by repairing their pc's and have found this in 3 different
    pc's, all running latest firefox.
In each case, when constant guard was un-installed, the hang-up
    problem went away.
