I successfully re-installed my Win XP on my desktop computer today and all went well - except for one little problem. My computer will no longer connect to the internet (it did before the re-install). My laptop receives the signal wirelessly from my router fine and works perfectly, but the wired connection from my desktop to the router is not working. When I go to Network Connections on my desktop I see that there is nothing there. I've turned the router on and off and checked that the yellow cable between the router and the computer is still in place. The DSL light is solid, though the wi-fi and internet lights are flashing constantly. The internet has been working fine on the desktop for years until the re-install today. The laptop continues to surf effortlessly.

Any idea what might be the problem? Thank you. :)

Hi Lugwalker. You need to make sure you download the chipset drivers for your motherboard and you need to install the drivers for the network card.

The reason you are receiving no wired internet connection is because you need to install the drivers in order to get the network card to work.

Whats the make and model of your labtop?

Thanks for that. The computer with the problems is my desktop.

My main circuit board is a Dell OWG864. Do I download the chipset drivers and the network card drivers from Dell?

    Thanks.

Download both the chipset and the network drivers.

Great news! I went into the Dell Support website and installed the chipset and network drivers. I was amazed that such a simple procedure would have the desired results.

Many thanks, Evan and Whiskeyman. Much appreciated!
