    I had following message on both my desktop and laptop computers;
    "windows has detected an ip address conflict. Another computer on this network has the same ip address as this computer. Details in windows system event log. "

    This is the first I have ever got that message. I have a desktop with router and a laptop connected with wireless. Don't understand why the message. Anytrhing I should do?

    Try shutting down everything (including router), then power up your router and wait until it has a connection. Now boot up your computers and see if the problem still exists.

    Everything is ok as far as I know. I only closed the notices and never returned again. I
    Only the 2 computers on my network. Where is the windows event log? Anything I shoulds look for there? I have rebooted only the computers several times since.

    You can forget about it. These things tend to happen once in a blue moon.

    I get the same message from time to time. I always ignore it. It, as far I know, has never
    caused any problem.

    Both your computers are set to "Obtain an IP address automatically ". To prevent this from ever occurring again, it's best to set your desktop computer with a static IP address and have the laptop get IP address automatically.

    If you do that, use these settings:

    IP: 192.168.x.x
    Subnet: 255.255.255.0
    DNS: same a router IP
