I was told by ASUS Support that disabling the touchpad is not possible in Win XP. On my wife's 1000HA, I'm seriously considering disabling it with wire cutters, but can't figure out how to open tha case!

Please supply more specific details (ie model number). It's been my experience that often left hand (customer facing) doesn't have a clue what right hand (technical) know.

Post those details and as Evan posted earlier you may find you can disable in BIOS, either way I find it very unlikely that you can't disable it whatever OS you use.

    Hi Galaxyview,

I feel as if you have settled and resigned yourself to your computer oem support telling you disabling is not possible. Turning it off all together maybe a "can't do" but the link previously given by Evan, does led to snaptics software. Much frustration from a bothersome touchpad is the "tap to click ". With synaptics you can turn this off with the icon that will sit in the systray. Have you tried this? If not give it a shot. Husband had same problem and typing was sheer misery. This solved it for him. :)
