I went to the malware and virus section in earlier weeks. Nothing was found when I went through the procedures that were requested of me. I would like help in finding out, and fixing the problem with my laptop. I play games on my laptop.

    I have the following.

    Windows 7 home premium
    copyright 2009 microsoft corporation.
    Service pack 1

    Manufacturer: eMachines
    Model: eMachines E725
    Rating: 3.3
    Processor: Pentium(R) Dual-Core CPU T4400 2.20GHz 2.20 GHz
    Installed memory (RAM): 3.00 GB
    System type: 64-bit Operating System
Pen and Touch: No Pen or Touch input is available for this Display

    1) I would like to identify what is causing the crashes.
    2) Sometimes when I start up my pc, it does not detect the drives. I have quoted this in my last malware forum thread here. What is this, and why does this occur?
    3) I would like to know if playing the game(s) that I play on my laptop may be the cause of why my pc crashes.
    4) The pc even crashes when it is sitting idly and no obvious programs are being used at the time that it crashes. The pc also crashes when I am idle in the game(s) that I play, but not when I am active in the game(s) I play.
    5) Are there any currupted files on my pc?
    6) What should I do to find, and fix, my laptop pc?

Thank you very much in advanced for helping me in this matter. I look forward to finally fixing my laptop so that this sort of thing, crashes, do not occur any more.

Boot from a live Linux cd & look for crashes when system is idle. You may have to run you system for 2-3 hours to get anything.

If it still crashes on Linux, its a hardware issue. If it works in Linux, best option would be to take a backup & reformat/reload Windows.

    1) I do not have a "live Linux cd ". Even if I did, how do I "look for crashes when system is idle "?

    2) If it is a hardware issue, how do I trouble shoot to find which hardware part is having the problem?

    3) I never made a phyicial back up copy of my system. Every time I got help in the malware section of windowsbbs, I always got instructions to reset my restore points and make a new one. If I get money together and buy a windows 7 cd, can I fix my system then, or is it left up to a fresh reformat of my laptop? (If thats the case, it doesn't help one bit, because I will lose what I have put on this pc).

    4) I do not want to do a fresh start of my system. That does only get rid of everything that I put on this pc. i want to avoid that as much as possible.

    5) I recently had a bsod. At the top of the bsod description, before it quickly restarted my laptop, there was something about the kernal at the top of the bsod details. I was gonna take a screen shot of what was on the screen, but the bsod was gone before I could take the picture.

You can download & burn live cd from a lots of places on the net. A good place to start would be The LiveCD List. Choose whatever catches your fancy & download it, burn it & boot your notebook from the cd.

You have mentioned that your computer crashes when idle. You would be looking for similar behaviour here - an error or the systems hangs or reboots.

Most probably it would be flaky RAM or bad blocks on hard disk. Anything more & you are in for major repairs/expenses.

You SHOULD back up immediately all the data including mails, documents, songs, pictures, internet explorer favorites on to an external media like USB drive/DVD.

You would have received a Windows 7 media when you purchased the laptop. If you didn't, there must be some utility to make a bootable CD/DVD and a hidden partition on your hard disk to restore Windows. You need not buy a fresh copy. But you would have to reinstall ALL the programs & apps again.

Lets hope we can avoid it.

Without the exact description it would not be possible to even take a wild guess. You should disable Auto restart in Win 7. Control Panel->System->
Advanced System Settings->Start and Recovery->Settings->Automatically restart.

    Thank you for replying.

After the last time that I have had issues with my laptop, I have cut back drastically on my pc usage at home. In addition, having my internet connection issues at home with its ups and downs, financially, has led to less electricity usage, including that of my laptop. Since the last post of this thread, I haven't seen any activity that would be problematic. I thank you for the insight and help towards me on this issue I have experienced. Fortunately, I seem to have had my issues derive from to much usage time on my leisure activities, such as online gaming. Since I restrict myself from vast time spent on my laptop at all now, I have not seen any of the issues that have bothered me previously. Therefore, I would like to ask for someone to make this thread as resolved.

Thank you for your time in helping me with this issue. If by bad luck in the future, the issues I have entailed in this thread appear in the future, I will make sure to look back at the details of this thread for guidance as to what to do in order to pick up fixing such an issue.

    Thank you.

    Sincerely,

    Forsaken Knight
