A lot of people have a wireless network at their home these days. We'd like to see how they are secured.

I secure my wireless home network using WPA2 Personal security. That seems to be the most popular way of securing your wireless network nowadays.

Unsecured and has been that way for about 4 or 5 years. Nobody lives near me and the street is a ways down the driveway. Kids and grandkids come over all the time and use it with their junk.

Voted for the wrong one, (hungover) should have been WPA2 PS not WPA. Additionally I don't broadcast SSID and restrict connections to known MAC addresses. Both easy to circumvent I know but every little helps.

Voted for WPA, but now not sure if have WPA 2 PS.
My router: D-LINK says "WPA Only - Personal "

My son and his wife do all sorts of business related things on their laptops with unsecured router. I keep telling them to secure it, but they think not necessary. Unable to convince them otherwise.

I don't use a wireless network. I have the option on my laptop, but haven't set it up as I don't need it.

WPA2 AES, Password is 49 characters long and good at last estimate for about 2.2 million years of code-cracking safety at current computing speeds. oughta at least last me until next router [HaHa :) ]; MAC Address filtering: ON; Network share over internet: OFF and local network share off except to specific MAC Addresses.

To everyone who doesn't think you need security on their wireless networks, .... some words of wisdom: We live in a brave "New World ". Even if your neighbors are trustworthy, and if they have children you shouldn't count on it, you should be concerned about deliberate "Drive By" assaults on your personal networks , computers, and data. If by no one else your own government uses this tactic under the "Patriot Act ". While I personally don't have anything to hide and believe the government should have access to this tool under certain circumstances, it opens the average citizen up to many potential problems, such as: misidentifications, hijacked activity on their networks unbeknownst to them, accidental acces to monitored sites by them or their children, etc ...

I'd encourage everyone to fully secure their networks, wireless or otherwise, and take time to think about the potential repurcussions or hassles they could encounter, if they don't. Do any financial business online or keep your records on your hard drive??? Cheers!

Like Patonb, I also monitor my router logs. See lots of attempts but no successes.

I'm using WPA2 only mode with TKIP & AES as cipher. My pass phrase is 25 characters, mixed case with numbers & special characters :)

In the event you travel to Birkirkara, Malta, you can access Arie's wireless network using this passphrase:

    Code:
    umUstbOver18t0useth!swlaN

My daughter traveling to Malta from US for work conference and 2 weekends of vacation. Since Arie said to try will have her try it while there. :D

She signed up for the conference so she could travel to Malta and explore.

Poll Reply: WPA/AES w/ router firewall

WPA/AES w/ router + gateway hardware firewall set up with high level security (customized) limited opened ports for TiVo & bare necessities. Also, SID broadcast is disabled, and DHCP leases to only my two devices' MAC addresses. (and to quote JustinEpt: "MAC Address filtering: ON; Network share over internet: OFF; and local network share off except to specific MAC Addresses. ")

I guess that's as much as any amateur can possibly do...along with Windows 7 software firewall.

I tried to enable WPA2 but apparently my router/gateway doesn't support it. Blast it!
