A short time ago I installed a program called iMESH but uninstalled it as I did not want it. Even so, my Autoplay Options List for music CDs has three options with no icons, but text, e.g., 'Rip songs', all stating 'using imesh'.

I have attempted to remove them by editting the Registry (no luck so far), and even the CleanHandlers program doesn't do the job.

I have discovered that there are many many registry entries with 'imesh' somewhere in them, and lots in the CLASSID part. Do I dare simply to delete all these, or is that unsafe?

    Any other suggestions?

Either back up the registry - I suggest ERUNT or back up (export) each imesh key before deleting.

Thanks for your response Pete. I haven't yet tried deleting all the iMesh refs as I was still looking at the Registry 'handlers' area, and I found a solution. It's a bit tedious, but worth reporting as it may help someone else:

Previously when I deleted one of the Registry iMesh handlers the relevant Autoplay option disappeared but was replaced by a strange icon and rubbish text. The BREAKTHROUGH I found was that if I then ran CleanHandlers, that option was removed!

So, the trick is to delete the unwanted handlers one by one and run CleanHandlers after each deletion. I now have the options list back to what it should be. Excellent!

Now to try getting rid of all the other iMesh references!

Good progress - thanks for the update :)

Edit for others reading this thread ....

CleanHandlers is for XP, Vista only.

I have seen that "Uninstall" and "Remove" by using Windows is unfortunately "favorable" to the installed proggy that you are trying to get rid of... sure, it might disappear from the Program Files list and maybe the desktop icon will also disappear, but Windows Uninstaller seems to just remove the obvious and the ability to run the proggy... all the **** remains behind to cause you problems, mostly in the Registry and sometimes in Files. Therefore I would recommend using a REAL Uninstaller when you really want to get rid of a proggy, one that finds at least 99% of the "left overs" and lets you remove them. I have had good luck with Revo Uninstaller. You will be AMAZED at what is left over after just running "their" uninstaller, after all, they want you to be stuck with at least something of their proggy. Revo will find most/all of the remnants.
