Upgraded Vista to Windows 7. Have downloaded Java, offline and online, but still will not install. When I open the .exe file, it starts then stops without any errors, msgs, etc.

Also, have noticed that when I try to open Safari web browser, I get a "safe mode" desktop view, but Safari will not open either.

Can anyone help? This may be one issue or more...I don't know. I've done all "workarounds" that I can find online, but so for, no fixes that work.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi elaine. You've probably tried this already but try right clicking the Java installer and select Run as Administrator. See if it opens. Do you have UAC Off or On?

Have you tried shutting down all background programs that are running in the system tray including security programs? Having other programs running could interfere with the Java installation so see if shutting all of those applications down makes any difference.

For your Safari problem have you tried booting the computer into Safe Mode with Networking and seeing if Safari works there?

There is a possibility that upgrading from Vista to Windows 7 broke a few things in the Windows 7 installation and you may have to do a clean install of Windows 7 if we can't resolve these problems.

Yes, I've already turned off all add-ons, startup (except Microsoft), firewalls, etc. Still will not work. I can't even get the Java installer to show up anywhere...just the downloads of Java.

How do I boot into Safe Mode with Netowrking?

I do have the discs to do another install, but need to know what process to take, ie, removing the existing Windows 7 and then re-installing??? What process are you calling a clean install?

    Thanks much,

To boot into Safe Mode with Networking reboot the computer. After the computer logo screen shows press the F8 key on startup. After that key is pressed you will see the advanced boot options menu. Select the Safe Mode with Networking Option using the arrow keys and then press the Enter key.

After Safe Mode with Networking loads log into your user account and see if you can get the Safari web browser to run. You can also see if you can get Java to install from Safe Mode.

What I mean by clean install is you would format the harddrive which completely erases all data on the system and then you install Windows 7 fresh with no software installed. So yes you will be removing the existing installation and then reinstall the Operating System.

Since you may have to reinstall Windows 7 take a look at this guide, Clean Install of Windows 7.
