We're currently working on a customer facing Kiosk build that also has staff access through a backdoor. For various reasons we're having to install the Office (2010) viewers. Does anyone know of a way of disabling things such as 'Open', 'Open for Editing'? Basically it's to stop them browsing the device and also to stop them being able to open IE in non-kiosk mode.

    Thanks in advance

    What operating system?
You can change the shortcuts to the viewers by adding the /F switch which will open them in full screen mode.

I'd disable the viewer extensions in IE and force Office "downloads" to be saved to the Desktop, thus no "save as" dialog. You can lockdown the IE Options applet too. You could add the /F switch to each Office file format in Folder Options > File types.

Thanks for that - will try. For info OS is Windows Embedded POSReady 2009, not one of Microsofts best know but basically XP - and supported to 2019!

If you are talking about XP and 2019, you better cut about 5 years off that date.

    Unfortunately

It looks as though the 2007 Viewers don't have the full screen option (not that I can get to work). 2003 does, however you can still press Escape to exit it which rather negates what I'm trying to do.

    Version issues

Tony - it's more the fact that the 2007 viewers don't seem to have the ability to run in full screen. God knows why but the supplier has installed Excel/PowerPoint 2007 and Word 2003. Word has the option for full screen but not the others. As these devices come under PCI I can't really afford to go with the 2003 version.

No - my link is explicitly POSReady and 2019. However POSReady is built on XP.

    Very locked down

Luckily Extended support is ok for PCI

Vendor has done very well, among other things very restricted physical keyboard also major software tiedowns.

I'm going to close as downgrading from IE8 to IE7 seems to have resolved.
