    MS XP 2002 HOME EDITION

Hi I have just downloaded an Avery template to print a sheet of labels from Template L7161 (3 ACROSS AND 6 DOWN) and cannot get the address to print correctly in its own 'square'.

The first 3 rows print ok and the rest are printing all over the place.I had assumed that using a template they would automatically print off correct but obviously not.

Can any one tell me how to line it up correct please:eek:

A couple of pointers, have you selected the exact same L7161 that shows on your Sheet of Labels in the Label selection in the printer setup.
Do you have your printer set to the same paper format as your Label sheet A4 or Letter, this is a common oversight.
You don't need to waste your Labels check in print preview before printing.
Sometimes I will print a whole sheet of addresses on a plain sheet of paper first and then hold it in the light against a sheet of labels and it is easy to check the alignment just to make sure.
Re-check this and let us know how you go.

Have checked the paper format and that is set to A4. Cannot find the Label selection in the printer set up have looked everywhere!!. Would it be better if I did not use a template? is there any other way I could printed a sheet of address labels?

I used the template thinking it would be easy.I have typed all the addresses in on the template and they look perfect on screen and look all in line when I check 'print preview' and also the first 2 lines of the labels always print in line it is the others after that that go all over the place.

Anyway thank you for your help I will continue to try and see what I am doing wrong.

Do you have MS Office installed. It has a label printing setup. I use Avery Design Pro5, and I love it, have been using it for some 5 years. I do all my labels Addresses for XMas do my own return Address labels the works.
Avery have a free program that you can download from their website which is quite good.
I am sure that you only have some minor setup issue.
The issue that you describe, I have faced myself many a time and I have wasted quite a few sheets of labels, that is why I mentioned printing first on a blank sheet of paper.

Well, I have done some checking and testing and it all works fine here. I have printed out a sample page with the L7161 Template, plain from scratch that is, meaning a blank label where you type your own addresses in, not using the Avery pre- design, I could not find a match to the L7161 in the pre - designed Templates.
Another thing that Avery recommend is that you Calibrate your Printer first before printing the labels.
What printer do you use. Also it is recommended that if you have a rear tray, that you use that.
Have a look around here if you can find some Avery support.
One setting somewhere snowdrop, is all that is stopping you from getting it right.
I am getting flashbacks from when I struggled with them, and I remember like you say in print preview it all looks OK, but then the actual print is wrong.
My printer is a Canon and I set my printer to:
" Preview before Printing " and I am quite sure that it is there where it will show if your alignment is out.

Hi I went into Avery and downloaded the template again, it still came the same, so then I just altered the addresses that did not fit individually and then selected all of them and aligned them all to the middle and that seems to work. Not the best solution but as long as it prints them ok it will have to do. I have an Epson DX4400 PRINTER but have noted what you have said about 'Preview before Printing' and will look out for that. At least I can print them now thanks to all the help you have given me!!! Many grateful thanks for being so patient. Marlene.

Hi, I was thinking about that too, but that is not really the reason for the alignment to be out, but like you say at least it gets you printing.
If you do a lot of label printing I really would recommend the full version of Avery Design Pro 5, you will get years of use out of it, I think it retails at around $55.- to 60.-
I have found a few more downloads, might be worth a try to use the light version, I have no idea as to how useful it would be to you, but it seems to have a fair amount of temp-lets.

Then there is a trail version, usually good just to fully try out, then I have found a old version on ebay cheap.
Your printer should be OK, no reason why it could not perform the task.
Calibration for Avery you should be able to do with either the light version or the trail version.
As I have mentioned before not to be set at A4 according to Avery is the most common problem for misalignment.

Have a look at it and let me know how you are going and I will try and remember more about what had failed me in the past.
