    Hello

I mostly use the win 2000 operating system for gaming and lan connectivity. I am able to successfully install service pack 2 and use the operating system. When I try to upgrade to service pack 3, when i try to reboot after install, the process does not get beyond the windows white loading screen. The blue progress meter stops in mid stream, I wait a few minutes and a blue screen pops up. I don't have the exact string of error code, but I know is says something to the effect of "IRQL not less or equal ".

Is their a solution to my problem? I spoke with someone who has experience with win2000 and he told me to make sure I was set up for an os2 config in the bios...instead of Non-os2, which I am currently configured as.

Also, I am wondering if service pack 3 is even a necessity and will I notice considerable improvements in stability and gaming by spending the time and effort it takes to correct this problem?

    Your thoughts are appreciated...

    Brian

May have found my own solution...

I tinkered around a bit more with loading the Service pack 3 on my machine. I noticed, while on the blue screen of death, something else besides the "IRQ NOT LESS OR EQUAL ". It also said something about a 'scsi port' on the next line below.

It got me thinking...I have a scsi drive and a scsi controller card. I thought about disabling the card and the drive, but then thought better about it and decided to do some research. I went on the net, looked for some updated drivers for my 'Initio SCSI Host Adaper" PCI card. Low and behold what do I find??

A link for a few files that correct the service pack 3 problem with my SCSI controller card. I'll go home tonight and install the new files and see if it works out.

    Still issues

Maybe I didn't install the new Initio SCSI Host Adapter files correctly, but I am still having the same issue...blue screen of death at startup. Any suggestions? Almost at my wits end...

    Issue resolved :)

    I have fixed the issue!

I erroneously deposited the Initio SCSI Card SP3 fix files that I got from the Initio website in the 'WINNT/inf' folder instead of the 'WINT/System32/drivers' folder. I rebooted after I correctly located the files while in safe mode, and voila...windows loaded fine.

Sorry you had to talk to yourself for a couple of days. But glad you got it fixed and very glad you posted back with details.

And yes, SP3 is worth the effort. Somewhat more stable and quite a bit more secure.
