Machine working on had I.E. 4 and Outlook Express 4. Preview Pane acting weird. The layout was set for Preview Pane to function and is set correctly.

With Preview Pane set when you'd go to the Inbox or any other box and there were more emails to fit on the screen the scroll bar on the right would not go to end of the folder. If turn preview pane off then the scroll bar works.

Upgraded to I.E. 5.5 sp2 and Outlook Express 5 with the same results. Is a hard one to describe. I have the folders and contact area separated like it should but unable to get preview pane to function correctly.

Any ideas ??? Or if need further info. let me know. As I said is a little hard to describe.

For starters I would suggest a full system VIRUS check.

And next to check and make sure you have all of the Critical Updates installed.

Also I believe it is recommended by many members of this BB to turn the preview pane off anyway. Due to some Viruses opening by just being previewed.

    1) full system scan done no virus's found. latest definitions used from Norton.

    2) sp2 installed with the I.E. as well as the security patches. should have nothing to do with the preview pane functionality though.

    3) yes I understand about virus's opening within the preview pane possibility but if definitions are current and are scanning the mail as it comes in this threat should be less.

    Thoughts though appreciated.

I have a feeling as to the problem but would like someone else to maybe point it out.

    Thanks again.

If those items have benn done and all seems well in those ares them I have no ideas as I have not use Outlook Express for YEARS. It is not even installed.

If it does get past me and get installed, it leaves almost as fast as it came.

Try deleting any messages which you no longer require, compacting and then running the Repair Tool.

    Good point.

    gghartman-
Have you considered a possible display driver or display resolution problem?

I havent used Outlook or Express since I was in the corp. arena. I personally use Eudora.

Have rebuilt all folders by recreating the idx file. Have tried both 640x480 all the way up to 1024x768 thinking the same way you are but that didnt work either. Have looked at the settings on my machine for Express and they are exactly the way this other machine is setup. Personally I think something in the registry got wached somehow but unable to find anything pointing to that at Microsofts web site.

Machine is a home users machine almost 4 years old with never a rebuild since it was brought but alot of uninstalls and installs have been done since first purchased. Machine is a p2 266 celeron with 32mb ram. Rebuilding and upgrading the memory is about 1/3 the cost of say buying Steven the Dell guys TV special. But might have to otherwise they might have to live with not having the preview pane functioning.

What specific repair tool are you referring to ???

And again thanks for the input.
