Anybody use this freebie for WD hard drives? The User Manual is worse than M$ documentation.

    1. I created a full image backup; subsequent backups are supposed to be incremental, but judging by the time they take (~40 minutes, like the first one), they appear to be brand new full backups as well.

    2. My first full backup was one 40GB file. Subsequent backups are two 20GB files, with no apparent connection/relationship between them (just numbered 1 and 2).

What the heck is going on?

What version of Windows are you using this with. If I remember right, there are problems with it when using Win 7. Can't remember where I read that at.

Without even reading the manual (who does that :D), I very much doubt that the WD version would do incremental backups.

The customized versions (not only WD supplies them) are really only meant to help you migrate your data from an old drive to the new (in this case WD) drive.

I'm using the Acronis product with Windows 7 without any problems.

Mr Bill, Arie...sorry, I'm Win7/64, home premium. ATI, WD Edition 2010, build (14,010)

I can believe it doesn't do incremental, even tho a couple of the dialog screens say it does (it seems to be a "full backup" only). There must be something very unusual about this WD edition.

Arie, I assume you're running regular Acronis, not the WD version. Do you ever get two files for one image? Is some setting causing that? (eg, checking "A new backup overwrites the previous one ")

Yes... It is FREE. It will also only restore to a WD disk. For full functionality you'll need to buy the full program.

I doubt it. If I remember I check next time I take my backup drive from the safe to run a backup.

My daily backups run on my WHS server (not Acronis).

Arie...I realize it's free, and I use WD HDs. I had hoped to find other folks who use this software so that I could clear up "discrepancies" in the manual, but even after posting on 4 different forums, I have yet to find a user of this software (maybe that says something?). Grazzi, Chris

The only thing it says IMHO is that users are

    1. Not aware of the free offer

    2. Have no need to clone their current drive to their new drive.

Most users who purchase an additional drive use it as such: an additional drive. Few will realize that if they bought a drive with better specifications, they could benefit more if they ran their OS off the new drive, and use their old drive as "D" (or additional/backup drive).
