    Hi Everyone,

I have just upgraded my computer and OS as follows.

Old computer: Dell Latitude 610 Windows XP pro. Bios version A06

New computer: Dell Studio1558 Windows 7 Home premium. Bios Version A11

Using my old computer I was able to, via the Bios, set a start up time from a complete shutdown.

I have not found away to do the same in my new computer.

The only thing I have found is software that will start up my computer onlyif is in hibernate mode and not total shutdown.

Would upgrading to Win7 Pro and running Virtual PC in Win XP mode be a work around or is it totally a Bios function?

    Thanks, TRoof

Hi troof, it's totally a BIOS function (I'm guessing using an alarm and the CMOS clock). Your BIOS may support WoL (Wake on LAN) though, but this requires you to send a magic packet to your system to start it up.

Wildfire, thank you for the reply. Since I am not on a network that is always on it sounds as though I have once again taken one step forward and two back. Silly me thinking upgrading was an upgrade. At least my new computer is cleaner and very shiny.

I will probably be back with another - "Can I do this in Win7 like I did with Win XP ", question as I find things I used to use but now can't.

    Troof

No problem, I'm sorry I couldn't give you the answer you were wanting.

Just to be clear for other readers this is a BIOS (firmware) change, not an OS issue. Neither Windows 7 or XP offer to wake a powered down system.
