I have Dell Inspiron 14R, Intel 3i, Windows 7 Home Premium, SP1. I want to burn a CD but suddenly the DVD/RW drive does not recognize blank CDs. I thought the blank CD was faulty, but I managed to burnt it in an HP nx6310. The Dell can read the burnt CD. With blank CDs, I get error message D: is not accessible. Access denied. And Device Manager claims The device is working properly!. SP1 is a recent upgrade - but I cannot say with certainty that trouble started with this upgrade. I navigated to device description: Computer (right clicked on drive) > Properties > Hardware > [Selected drive] > Properties > Details > Property (Select Device description from list): CD ROM Drive (!)

I want to use Roxio. Roxio opens but the drive with the CD does not open. D: is not accessible. Access denied is a Windows message.

I uninstalled 2 applications - a freeware classroom management application and a trial version of a zero client application. The DVD access problem is gone.
But I need those applications! I have communicated to the applications developers. Waiting !.

The DVD/CD non-access was caused by the zero client application - not the classroom management application. The developers advised Go to “Configuration” Drag the CD drive and any USB drives you have into “shared” - essentially to configure the drive as shared and make it accessible to all workstations.
I have since re-installed my 2 applications and configured as advised. All is well. Thank you all.
