Mid this week the wife rings & asks if I have done anything to the Modem (Belkin 150N) as the kids can't connect to the internet!?
Went through all the usual checks but nothing, even changed channels!

The wifes Laptop as well as mine (both Win7) connect no problem, both are no more than 10ft from the modem, but mine started having problems & it's only 3 ft from the modem
Daughters laptop (vista) 10ft away in another room won't connect, son inlaws laptop (Win7) in another room intermittent, Shed computer (Vista Desktop) 30ft away won't connect
I set up a D-link wireless router (DI-614+), connected via the Belkin modem (hardwired) & I can connect the following (via either of the 2 ssid's I used) Mine & the Wifes Laptops
I can connect the daughters laptop to the 2nd ssid (d-link router) only!
Shed computer will not connect to either, even though it has good signal on both ssid
Son inlaws laptop I can't test at the moment as he is not at home & has it password protected
Wifi enabled phone now won't connect to either ssid  original (belkin) not in range even though it is right next to modem

Last weekend we had new neighbours move in  I wonder what they are running that may have caused this problem? as it worked perfectly before they moved in, as we had no problems with the previous tenants

Any help would be greatly appreciated
    Jac

Are you in a duplex and is your modem router on the dividing wall?
Is it possible they could have a cordless phone on the other side of the wall to your router?
Perhaps try moving it to a different location in your house to see if it improves the signal strength.

The Belkin 150N is not a modem, it's a wireless router.
Verify the Internet is working by connecting the modem directly to a computer via wire. If OK, disconnect comp and turn OFF modem. Then reset the Belkin to factory defaults using its reset button. Then turn OFF the Belkin.

Next, power ON the modem and let it sync, then connect the modem to the Belkin, then turn ON the Belkin.

Connect a comp to the Belkin via wire and access its control panel via a Web browser, then set it up as you desire. Be sure to set a password for it other than the default one. This is NOT the wifi passwd but the passwd to access the router itself.

without reading fully the whole long description 99 % of wireless problems are caused by interference drifting in
The network card bounces between the two signals and cannot get a fix
Windows wireless utilities do not show you the channels
    Change the channel
For g/b there area 12 channels
the routers are usually set for default channel 6
Channels 1 and 11 are first picks
If the other router /routers change you may have to adjust from time to time
A program called netstumbler will show you the channels of signals in your area
Change the channel of the wireless router

i think your router is hacked by neighbour, you should reset the router by a pin, you should
enable mac filter and add mac address of your pc into the router, you should change default password of router or change the frequency of wireless

Turning off SSID broadcast is not a real security measure, the SSIDs can always be detected using 3rd party software like Kismet (MAC, Linux) or Net Stumbler (Windows). But it helps against the average user.

Have you tried a reset of the Belkin?

    Just to refresh this issue?

No longer can connect to internet or network using any of the Vista computers or smart phones! But all Win7 comps working well again

Tony, I have rebooted the modem, but not done a full reset? re-install?

    Regards Jac
