I have been using the backup program that came with WIN XP and it works fine. My problem is that I have scheduled it to do a backup once a week on Mondays at 10AM -- and this appears in the task manager.
The program never starts by itself, I always have to start it manually. Is there a way to have this start automatically?

I had that information which I carefully followed. Everything is OK except it does not start itself on or after the scheduled time.

Is there any background program that is running in the system tray such as security software that is preventing the Backup Utility from running?

Also is the Task Scheduler service running and on Automatic?

There is MS Security Essentials running, and how do you put the Task Schedular on Automatic?

It still does not automatically start up at the prescribed time or any other time. I have to manually start it. I have it set so it completely wipes out my previous backup and replaces it with a new one. Is this the problem?
Since I'm only backing up a few files, this process might take 5 minutes in all.
