    Hi,
I have a word 97 file I needed to copy from. I ran it through trend, avast! (both up to date) and sent it through virus total
"VirusTotal - Free Online Virus, Malware and URL Scanner "
    http://www.virustotal.com/

The file is clean according to all of the above.

I had created the file on a windows 95B PC with word 97 years ago.

After copying sections (of the word 97 file) to several new docx (word 2007) files, the new files have started having issues: margins keep resetting themselves (IIRC this occurred when I created the document to start with); the font keeps changing etc.
I have assumed the new files have been corrupted by the word 97 file (only wrt formatting).

    Question:
I need the content of all the files (the original and the new one(s)).
If I converted them to text, created new files, and copied the text to the new files would that solve things?
    Thanks

Hi and thank you for answering.

I'll try text and if that is unsuccessful I'll use the link above.

I'll post back with the results!
    Thanks

    ADDED INFO:
The text files became corrupt. I have to finish something (unfortunately start over on another PC) for a deadline so I cannot troubleshoot Word / the system I posted about originally (above) right now: (Dell Optiplex 780)

I have another Dell (Dimension E520 - profiled): Files got corrupt before the original HD failed.
I think this may be a pre-warning of possible HD failure on the 780 especially since text files got corrupt - not only word.

    Any comment?
    Thanks

    Possible cause:
I had been pasting from .pdf fileS directly into word (2007).
Although using another system now, if I paste from the .pdf fileS into a text file and from the text file into the word documentS I don't seem to have the problems (YET)

    Any comments?
    Thanks!

Run disk diagnostics on the 780

It may be worth checking out your hard drive using the manufacturer's disk diagnostics:

    ExcelStore

    Fujitsu

    Hitachi/IBM

    Samsung

    Seagate, Maxtor, Quantum

    Toshiba

    Western Digital

Is this system related to your other issues?

It's getting kinda hard to keep up with your problems tanya, perhaps best to resolve one problem at a time?

    Thank you wildfire!
I had run the office diagnostics on the 780 and everything was fine.....

I totally agree - only problem is that I think they may all be related (to me) I will try my best to keep issues separated!
Right now, I have to redo my overdue application (because of the corrupt files) - I will in the near future download the above and I appreciate the links!
    :)

    Progress Report:
    1. I had to defrag the HD

    2. The HD is a seagate so used seagate seatools - PASSED the long generic test.
yes wildfire, this system is related to other issues I posted about.

Since IMO the problem with the corrupt files *may* have been related to the .pdf docs I was pasting directly to word from, I will close this thread.
