Is there a way to keep the individual icons for the websites listed in IE6 - Favorites.....When I add a site that has a unique icon for their site it only stays in my list for a day or two. Is there a way to make them permenant? Thanks!

The reason they disappear is because the are stored in your temprorary internet files. So, depending on how much space you have allocated for your tif's they eventually get deleted. You can search your tif's using *.ico and when you find them copy them to another folder. Then, you can go into your favorites folder and right click on the favorite you want and select properties. Then click on the change icon button and browse to the folder where you copied the icons and choose the icon you want. Or, you can do it the easy way and use FavOrg (free) to do the work for you. Your choice. :)

What you are referring to are FavIcons. Whenever you connect to a Web site that uses a favicon, Internet Explorer downloads the icon to your system and uses it for any shortcut or menu items created for that web link. This is a useful feature because it makes finding a particular site in your Favorites folder easier, especially if you have many favorites.

The downloaded icon file is stored as a temporary file. Which means that everytime you clean out your temporary internet files you delete these files, which explains why you've noticed that they only seem to be there for a short while.

I use PC Magazines freeware program called FAVOR, which manages these files and keeps them on your system even after you've cleaned out the Temporary Internet Files. You can find a copy of the program at: FavOrg

Oops, I see that Zander beat me to the reply. Oh well, hope this helps.

sometimes they will not show in the address bar because they are only in the homepage folder on the website. I you jump to another page that is in a different folder than the home page the favicon will not show in the address bar.

there should also be three different size images in the .ico file to cover the different size icons that people use on there desktops. I'm not quite sure how much of a difference this part makes yet.
