    Hi,
My issue is with an installed program(Moto Update) used to program a controller unit. I have three machines doing basically the same thing (not all three are XP machines), but the machine i have access too is an XP with Service Pack 3 installed.
What happens is when the software is installed the Start Menu Icon for the program and desktop shortcut (created by me) will work until the laptop is shutdown or rebooted. At this time the Start Menu Icon nor the desktop icon will launch the program, the only way to launch the program is by using the Task Manager.
Any thoughts or direction i may take. Thanks in advance for any advice.

You might need to find it's user manual and look up how it should start up. It sounds like it does start up from the Run box.

Is it supported by Windows XP? You could try running it in compatibility mode.

I might think it cannot run the GUI (Graphical User Interface). In the old versions of Windows, program icons had settings for the graphical resolution that the program needed to be run under. Hmmm, look in the folder where you point Task Manager to start it up. There might be an icon file there. Use that icon file rather than making a shortcut to the .exe file.

You could try reducing the graphics (display) resolution in Windows down to something like 800 X 600 and see if your icons work. That will tell you there is something wrong with how the program runs it's GUI.

    Matt,
Thank you. The software is compatible with Win XP & Windows 7. I have installed this software on several machines with no issues (combination of XP & 7). I will try what you suggested and see if it makes a difference. Appreciate your feedback!

    Best regards,
    Gary M.
