Over the last couple of days, my CD burner drive hasn't been working. For one, it won't even open, and for another, whenever I click on the CD copier, it says I don't have a supported CD-R/CD-RW burner. This was working fine a few days ago.
I have a Windows 98 system, my CD burner is labeled "Philips ".

If anyone has any questions or suggestions, thanks!!

Have you tried using a paperclip end to open it?
    What software are you using?
When you go to device manager...any yellow exclamation marks?

I don't see any yellow exclamation marks in Device Manager.

Software? I am using Adaptec Easy CD Creator 4.

and as for the paper clip idea, there is no hole for the paper clip for it to push the drive out. This drive you have to flip the cover down and then you can see the drive, but I can't get it out.

In My Computer, it doesn't even acknowledge that I have 2 CD drives, it just says I have the one.

You can try a scanreg /restore
Start your computer, press and hold CTRL, (alternatively, tap F8 repeatedly) and then choose "Safe Mode Command Prompt Only" from the Windows 98 Startup menu.

At the MS-DOS prompt, type cd\windows\command , and then press ENTER. Where windows is the name of the folder in which Windows is installed.

At the C: prompt, type scanreg /restore , and then press ENTER.

Select the previous registry you want to restore, and then press ENTER. A properly working registry has the word "Started" next to the date.

When you receive notification that you restored a properly working registry, press ENTER to restart your computer.

Shut down your computer normally. Unplug it from the wall or UPS or whatever you have it plugged into. Wait a few seconds. Plug it back in and start it back up.

    ;)

I tried the scanreg/restore, and nothing happened.

Also, I opened up the computer case to check the wiring, and unplugged everything and replugged it in. This did nothing.

Did you type it in properly?
    scanreg /restore
    With the space?
Were you able to get to the MS-DOS prompt?

Yes, I typed everything in correctly, and I restored one of the registries. I just restored the first one at the top of the screen, was I supposed to restore all of them, or a specific one? I think I restored the reg00 or something like that.

You were to pick a date prior to your problems arising.

This may be a silly question but when you turn the computer on initially, does a light come on, on the cd burner? This may mean that its blown up or power is not getting to the drive.
