A few days ago I have been forced to reinstall my Windows 7, and I have finished restoring my data from Carbonite backup. But I cannot find my Microsoft Outlook address book. I need to add a few things: Having used Outlook 2007 before the system restoration, I decided to install MS Office 2010 with Outlook 2010. Although MS 2007 Home and Student is shown as also installed in my system, there is no sign of an Outlook 2007 being present.

I suspect that in order to find my hopefully restored Outlook address book, I will have to reinstall MS Outlook 2007. Am I right here? And if I am, would I have to uninstall my currently operative Outlook 2010 first? And, if do have to uninstall Outlook 2010 in order to be able to install Outlook 2007, do I risk loss of emails received and/or sent by way of Outlook 2010?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

All mail, contacts and calendar events are stored in a .PST file. Did you reimport your pst file? Do you have all you old email?

I had no trouble finding all my .PST files, including a large one with 1.89GB, evidently the one that I need. But it is in a different folder from the one which is currently active.
I suppose that these folders will have to be merged. How do I do this without destroying my Outlook records, past and present? I tried Import, and it did nothing. I hope that this will not necessitate my reinstalling Outlook 2007, which would now cost me around $120 that I am not willing to spend for an obsolete program.

The import function when done properly will import all old mail, contacts and calendar events.

Do you have all the old mail already imported?

As I mentioned in my previous post, I found a file named Outlook.pst with a size of 1.89GB, which presumably has all my old mail and (hopefully) my address book. The problem is now to get the detail steps to open this file and/or merge it with the .pst file that has been generated since my O/S reinstallation.

In the 2003 version which should be the same as 2007 - you click on FILE->IMPORT and you end up drilling down to where the PST file is stored.

I now have Outlook 2010 installed (not 2003). Any difference here?

Be bold "“ be brave - be adventurous -> click on something:eek:

    Sorry - I don't have the 2010 version.
Did you at least look for the File Import fuction:confused:
Can also read through Outlooks help file...
Googling -> "Outlook 2010 Import" would another good idea.

Steve -- I took your suggestion, and after an hour or so of digging, it turned out that the MS Outlook import function would do it all. My old emails are back again, and so is my Address Book (to the pure delight of my wife, who had been growling for days about typing - and mis-typing - various addresses from memory), and all is well - at least for now. Thank you very much Steve for all your help.
