whenever I received messages from Facebook (any message) in Outlook express, I am unable to open them (by clicking it). The program blocks itself and I must terminate it via task manager.
I am of course able to access the messages browsing the Facebook site.
That happens only for Facebook messages.
    Thanks for any suggestion.......

    Hi,

I don't think the program (OE) is blocking itself or the message, unless the Facebook domain is listed as a blocked site.Check filter settings.
I'm more inclined to believe that you anti-virus- or other anti-malware program is blocking it.
If your AV is set to scan incoming email - and most do -there is something in the email
that won't let you open it. This all depends on the settings in your AV program as to what to do if it detects some kind of anomaly in the email.
It could be a tracking feature in the email or graphics that raise a red flag for your AV.

One place to start is to check the activity log of your AV and see if you see any entries
    regarding blocked email.

    Thank you DiggerP,
I am quite sure my AV is not responsable. The subject of the message is infact visible in the input list. My AV in case, don't allow it and put directly the message in quarantine.
OE blocks itself as soon as I click on the message either with the left or the right mouse button.
Using the right button the choice windows opens, the hourglass appears .. and that's all.

    Hi mtomlj,

Yes ,I understand your reasons for saying that your AV is not responsible.
I'm afraid I don't have an answer ,except for telling you that there must be hundreds
of people with the same problem.
I doubt that this will make you feel any better ,but check these links

These are posts for Windows Live Mail, but from the Facebook forum you'll have seen that it affects other email clients such as OE as well

Sorry that I can't be of more help, but I don't use Facebook for several other reasons other than this issue.

Hope somebody will find a solution.

You could still check Task Manager and see what happens when you click the email. IOW ,have OE and TaskManager open before you click the Facebook email.Check for any other program trying to open or increase in CPU or Memory of your AV or others as soon as you click the email.
Also check Event Viewer for conflicts.

    Thank you Pete,
while reading your links I became sure of what I suspected before: it's something related to the facebook way of doing notification. The last Facebook message in my input basket, still readable, is dated march 4 and so all the previous ones.
I have searched for a method of contacting Facebook people but I have not found it. I left also a message on the technical assistance forum, but no answer so far.
Perhaps you can guess a way of contacting them...

    Hey Marco,

I'm afraid I can't find any other way to get in touch with the people of Facebook
    except through the Help forums.
From all I've read ,there seems to be very little response if any from the people in charge.
For me another reason not to get involved with them :)

    Good luck,

    Pete E.

I am having the same problem too with Outlook Express. It appears to be a problem with the HTML and/or an image in the email notification.
Until Facebook can fix the issue, users of Outlook Express can go to Tools > Options > Security Tab > Check the box labeled "Block images and other external content in HTML email." This worked for me.

    This worked for me too.
