I have a new laptop (HP Pavilion g7-1070 Notebook PC which I like very much, but I can't send an attachment with an email. I get a message that because I don't have MAPI (instead of POP) Outlook can't process it.

Email without attachments goes through nicely (Gmail). My desktop PC handles attachments perfectly well; both machines run Windows 7 and Word 2010. I keep the two for separate purposes and need to be able to send attachments from both.

I've never heard of MAPI, and I've never used Outlook. I can't figure out the problem. I use Thunderbird for my desktop email and have no problem.

    Can anyone help?

Are you sure you don't mean IMAP?

    Please post the exact message.

Edit: Additionally you should be using SMTP to send messages POP3 and IMAP are used to receive messages. Posting the exact message may help but I'm suspecting your account settings (for the servers and/or ports) are messed up.

2nd Edit: My Bad, it is MAPI, your mention of POP threw me :(...

Please download and install Microsoft Exchange Server MAPI Client and Collaboration Data Objects 1.2.1 and let us know if it helps.

Sorry about the POP/STMP mixup. My bad!

I'll try your download suggestion and keep you posted.
