    Ok Broni

I have updated to 'Java update 26'

Then I used JavaRa to uninstall the older versions and here is the report:

    NOTE:
As you see it refuses once more, relating back to my earlier comments to you about uninstalling version 13, as it is still on my control panel uninstall list.

I went on then to uninstall Adobe, and to install FoxTabPDFConverter which did not go well at all. Although the installation seemed to go ok. There was no way that I could open it to see what it looked like...no onscreen icon...nothing that I could use.I tried twice to install but I could not make sense of what was wrong with it. I have now tried to uninstall it without success. Should have stayed with Adobe I am beginning to think.

I then went back to Java, and I tried to uninstall version 13 through the control panel, using the uninstall option. That brought up a request by my system to let a program go through (like last time)which I did assuming it was to do with the uninstall process. But I believe that it conned me as the version 13 is still there and I have finished up with a toolbar on my Firefox called 'BabyLon Search', or something, that I did not expect to see. Does this mean anything to you?

    In conclusion

    1) Java is up to date.

    2) But I cannot uninstall version 13 (and I may have been conned into opening my computer to something that I did not want). I do I delete this BABYLON toolbar?

    3) Although I have attmpted to uninstall FoxTabConverter...and it is not on my control panel uninstall list...it does not show up on my program file list through control panel, but there are still files;drivers;images etc. on my system in...C:\Program Files\FoxTabPDFConverter. Don't know what to do with these as they were supposed to have been uninstalled.

There I think that covers it, and I hope it makes sense.

    Not my day today broni

    Good day broni,

I don't know how I got mixed up with those other programs, I know
it was during trying to unistall Java version 13 and changing to
    FoxIt PDF Reader.

My computer was a bit of a mess after that. It had slowed down
quite a bit, I had toolbars that I did not want, a juddery mouse,
some of my Favourites would not load (including your forum
at WindowBBS) It had all changed,I did know where to start.

So I decided to do a system restore to the recent last point
recommended. I knew that one of the recent programs you got me
to use had created a new system restore point. I am guessing
the point is just before installing Java version 26.

Sorry but I had to do it, hope it does not cause you any problems
helping me to get my computer clean.

The computer seems to be working as normal now.

    ESET

Here is the report from ESET that I did post earlier as requested:

    C:\Users\Alan\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\54\6e45fa36-2a098ee5 Java/TrojanDownloader.OpenStream.NCA trojan
    C:\Windows.old\Documents and Settings\Alan\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\54\6e45fa36-2a098ee5 Java/TrojanDownloader.OpenStream.NCA trojan

Here is a report from an ESET scan that I decided to do this morning:

    C:\_OTL\MovedFiles\06102011_174731\C_Users\Alan\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\Deployment\cache\6.0\54\6e45fa36-2a098ee5 Java/TrojanDownloader.OpenStream.NCA trojan

Thanks again Broni for all of your help, it is very much appreciated.

    Your computer is clean :)

    1. We need to reset system restore to prevent your computer from being accidentally reinfected by using some old restore point(s). We'll create fresh, clean restore point, using following OTL script:

    Run OTL

    • Under the Custom Scans/Fixes box at the bottom, paste in the following:

    Code:
    :OTL
    :Commands
    [purity]
    [emptytemp]
    [EMPTYFLASH]
    [CLEARALLRESTOREPOINTS]
    [Reboot]
    • Then click the Run Fix button at the top
    • Let the program run unhindered, reboot the PC when it is done
    • Post resulting log.

    2. Now, we'll remove all tools, we used during our cleaning process

    Clean up with OTL:

    • Double-click OTL.exe to start the program.
    • Close all other programs apart from OTL as this step will require a reboot
    • On the OTL main screen, press the CLEANUP button
    • Say Yes to the prompt and then allow the program to reboot your computer.

If you still have any tools or logs leftover on your computer you can go ahead and delete those off of your computer now.

    3. Make sure, Windows Updates are current.

    4. If any Trojan was listed among your infection(s), make sure, you change all of your on-line important passwords (bank account(s), secured web sites, etc.) immediately!

    5. Download, and install WOT (Web OF Trust): http://www.mywot.com/. It'll warn you (in most cases) about dangerous web sites.

    6. Run Malwarebytes "Quick scan" once in a while to assure safety of your computer.

    7. Run Temporary File Cleaner (TFC) weekly.

    8. Download and install Secunia Personal Software Inspector (PSI): http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scanning/personal/. The Secunia PSI is a FREE security tool designed to detect vulnerable and out-dated programs and plug-ins which expose your PC to attacks. Run it weekly.

    9. (optional) If you want to keep all your programs up to date, download and install FileHippo Update Checker.
The Update Checker will scan your computer for installed software, check the versions and then send this information to FileHippo.com to see if there are any newer releases.

    10. Run defrag at your convenience.

    11. Read How did I get infected?, With steps so it does not happen again!: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/topic2520.html

    12. Please, let me know, how your computer is doing.

I am curious as to why we never actually found the Fraud.XPAntivirusbot item that the S&D scan had reported. I have uninstalled S&D...could I ask if you would like to comment on my use of 'SpywareBlaster' in its place, please.

My computer appears to be working just fine Broni. Thank you very much for your help again.

    Cool beans.

Spywareblaster is a fine program. You can keep it.

Very well, as it's considered as a tool of the past.

    Well done!

Good luck and stay safe :)
