I had a VPN connection between my house and my parents house. We were both on BT ADSL using Netgear DG834G modem routers and Netgears inbuilt VPN software.

My parents changed to Virgin cable and we had to replace their DG834G with a Netgear SRXN3205 firewall. I have the VPN up and running and I can connect to their network drive from my house and vice-versa. However, I can't see their drive in the Network tree now but I did before we swapped the Netgear.

The main reason for this setup was, we both take a lot of digital pictures and we have Buffalo Linkstion NAS drives which can automatically backup to each other. These drives originally backed up each night but they can no longer see each, presumably for the same reason as the Network tree.

Is there a setting/check box to make devices visable on the other end of VPN?

You need to map the network drives again. If have the previous one you must delete it and recreate it.

    Thanks Tony,

The network drive maps still work on the pc's. It’s the network tree doesn't show the remote NAS device but does show the local NAS. The Buffalo NAS drives own backup software doesn't see the other remote NAS drive.

So I'm not sure what the subtle difference between the map function and the network tree function is.

Sounds like a permissions issue, resolved by configuring the user accounts on the Buffalos.
