    hi members

As we know in window explorer, Tools > Folder Option > File Types, we can change the association of a file extension to programs.

My problem is i have both Excel v30 & v07 in a winXp.sp2 OS which default to open an .xls with Excel v07. I tried to change the default to Excel v30 with its Excel.exe in folder Office11 through the FileType dialog. However it continues to open with version 07 using the Excel in folder Office12.

How can i resolve this. Thanks.

If you right click on one of the files and select Open With - do both versions of Excel show up?

That same window has an "Awlays Use" box you could try checking.

Steve in Winxp there is no "Always" but only "open With > Choose Program ". By the way i am doing all these in WinXP.sp3.

I just found changing extension association does not work for Excel02, 03, 07. If any the Excel version is eg repaired, the last version becomes default as expected. During this action, the extension association is changed but if i change it to another, it won't work on the desired version.
