Greetings, Can someone help me or suggest a site that can give me instuctions on hooking up another HD to my computer. The ps2 keyboard port on my brother's comp is dead. I took the HD out and want to hook it up to mine so I can recover info to transfer to his new comp. I am able to do the physical hook up, I don't know what comes after that.

Hard Drive I want to hook up:
    HP Pavilion 8250
    266 MHz Intel Celeron
Quantum 6.0 GB Enhanced IDE Hard Driv,
    Windows 95

    My Comp Specs:
    HP Pavilion6535
    466 MHz Intel Celeron
    256 MB Ram
    8.46 GB Samsung Hard Drive
HP CD-Writer cd12c (inplace of stock cd-rom drive)
    Windows 98se

I hope I have given adequate information. Thanks in advance for any assistance you may give.

    Respectfully,
    Ironjawz

    Hi,

If the existing hard drive and CD are connected to the first motherboard IDE port, then there should be an adjacent IDE connector which has nothing connected to it and would be where you would connect your brother's hard drive with its jumper set to "master." If the existing hard drive connects to one IDE connector and the CD to the other, then you would connect your brother's hard drive with its jumper set to "slave" to the second unused cable connector going to the existing hard drive. Make sure the jumper on the existing drive is now set to "master." In either case, when you shutdown and restart the computer, the BIOS should autodetect the new drive and you'll find the new partitions displayed in Explorer and copy files as desired.

But if it were me I would install the orphan drive in your brother's new computer. Yes, No, Maybe???

    Hi Evr,

Thanks for the reply. I did what you suggested. I installed the orphan on my brother's computer and was able to retrieve the files he needed. I just needed to know that was the thing to do so I didn't ***** anything up and if I did, I'd have someone else to blame. LOL .......... Thanks again.
