I have tried several times to download my printer hardware from the manufacturer's disk. In the middle of downloading the necessary files I need to set up my Dell 962 all in one printer, A window pops up and tells me that certain files are needed to complete download. Does anyone have any suggestions on what I need to do to correct to finish downloading my printer files? I am using a Dell 820 laptop. Thanks for any and all help, 740harold

What are the names of the files it says it needs to finish the installation?

In the troubleshooting information it says to uninstall any previous driver installations first, either using the software (get the "patch ") or doing it manually.

Other suggestions are to upgrade Java and to check that antimalware or the firewall are not interfering.

You can do searches for the file names Miz spoke about at the Dell website
    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...emID=PRN_ALL_A962&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
    or their forums

Usually I find the "missing files" errors are due to not uninstalling the previous attempt/s of running the installation.

Matt Thank You so much for offering to help me. I am on my way home from an appt and will try as you suggested. I will let you know how it goes. If I am still having issues, I will make sure I copy the name of the missing files that pops up with the error message. Have a great day. Harold

Matt. I still get a message that says: The file "wiafbdvr.dll" on Windows Professional cd-rom is needed. type the path where file is located, and then click OK.

What do I need to do to get the missing files? I do not have the original disk for my Windows XP Pro, but I do have the key code for my copy. Thanks for any further help

I asked for the names of the files to see if they were Windows files. If so, they are probably on the hard drive, just not where the installation expected to find them.

Wiafbdvr.dll is, indeed, a Windows file and as PeteC posted, you can direct the installation program where to find it.

Mit & PeteC. I have done all the abbove and still keep getting the same message as before. I did look at the application compatibility chart and didn't find my Dell latitude D820 laptop on the chart. Could that be the issue, that my la[ptop is too new for this older printer? I am sorry I am not more computer literate so I can help by asking the right questions. You all are very special people that are willing to help a complete stranger. I do appreicate all your time and efforts, Harold

See if Pete and Miz have other suggestions.

No, if your system is Windows XP, it appears to be supported by Dell, so there shouldn't be any version/hardware clash. Does the drivers disk have the User Manual on it? The manual should tell you the system requirements.

Try installing the drivers from Dell
    http://support.dell.com/support/dow...emID=PRN_ALL_A962&os=WW1&osl=en&catid=&impid=
(Same link I gave you before.)
If they install, search the Windows folder for that file and make a note of where it is located. Copy and save the file. If the drivers from the Dell website do not work to your satisfaction, uninstall them and try running the drivers disk again. Put the file (wiafbdvr.dll) back to it's original location, although you should just be able to direct the installer to it's location.

If it helps anyone, it is a driver for a flat-bed scanner.

If you want to get the dll from the cab (cabinet) file Pete located, you can extract it with a decompression program like Winzip or another (free) program, 7-Zip. You could get 7-Zip at www.majorgeeks.com.
