Resolved Will a 2.0 USB devices work in a 3.0 port

    The plug looks bigger on the 3.0 port:confused:

    Yes they will.

    The 3.0 port has extra connections which are used only when mated with USB 3.0 cable. You can safely connect USB 2.0 devices through old cables.

    And the other way around too. USB3 devices will work in USB2 ports.

    Will it damage the plug

    if you inserted a 2.0 USB devices into a 3.0 USB plug :confused:

    Yes. USB is frontwards and backwards compatible. Of course, your data transfer speeds will be limited by the slowest device.

    No to be clear john, you won't damage the hardware if you use USB 1/2/3 devices in other USB 1/2/3 sockets. rsinfo's link give clear information about this, maybe you should read it.

    Perhaps best if you ask the question in your post rather than changing the subject ;)
