Resolved Reading e books on my laptop

I use FireFox 4.0 but could just as well use any browser if needed for what I want.
My library now has e books available for e readers. What I'm wondering is there anyway I can download library books and read them on the browser on my laptop. Maybe an extension or something would work.
I'm not anxious to spend money on an e reader.
Anyone tried it?
Any help will be appreciated.

The software for reading Amazon's ebook format on your computer is called Kindle for PC. It's free.

Barnes & Noble's Nook uses a different format. Look on this page for the software they offer.

You might try a Google search for "ebook software for computer" or something along those lines to see if there's more out there.

You should check your Library website. At this point, our Library lending system is not compatible with the Kindle system. It uses the standard format for Copyrighted books in the Borders Kobo, and Barnes and Noble "s Nook, as well as the Sony system.
I bought a Kobo, and the stupid thing keeps losing contact with the WiFi, and it loses books. I, never, tried to borrow books, and read them in my browser, but it should be possible. The .epub format, (for non copyrighted books) is available for any books which are not protected, and it can be accessed in FF4.0, via an extention. But, definitrly, it depends on your Library's policy.
