    Win XP Pro.
    Norton Cleansweep 2002 V 6.0

A download manager placed it's name in: View/Toolbars/
    I believe it intergrated it'self with IE6.

When I uninstalled the program, it did not remove what it
    had placed in the Toolbar.

How do I get rid of it?

I tried looking for it with the Cleansweep but maybe it
can't be found with that application.

Perhaps a link to an article can be given as well as
    individual advice.

    Thanks

Forgive me, I'm not running XP.
Can you right click on the toolbar, and choose customize...and remove that way?

It's not that row of buttons, it is the very top one that has: File, Edit, View, Favorites, Tools, Help.

That one is not customizable by right clicking, unfortunately.

    thanks for your reply though.

Sorry, I have not made myself clear. I am meaning the MENU bar, the very top one in IE6, with File, Edit, View, etc.
When you right click that bar, the menu that pops out has no 'customize' on it.

I know you can customize the bar below, the one with Back, Forward, etc on it. I believe I was confusing people because I was calling the Menu bar the Toolbar.

Try reinstalling the program and see if there is an option in it to put it there. If so, uncheck the option and then uninstall it. If the option isn't there, try searching the registry for it. What "s the name of the program? Have you tried the registry cleaner in Cleansweep?

    Thanks

The program was a download manager called ReGet.

I have just got Cleansweep & will play with it over the weekend.

I will reinstall ReGet & see what happens.

I believe, from memory, that there is an option to intergrate ReGet, or not, with IE.

    Will report back.

    Cheers

Have another cup of coffee. That'll open the eyes up a bit (does for me anyway)! :)

    theoldfarter,

That program places 468 new Keys in the Registry. Even RegCleaner doesn't get them all. What you need to do is manually clean the Registry.

Open Regedit and highlight "My Computer" so as to place the focus properly. Then do an EDIT > FIND for reget. When found press Delete and then press Y then press f3, continue doing that until you get all the entries. There are 6 or more of them that are stranded after the uninstall. When the Search terminates, do it from the beginning once more to make sure you got them all. You need not reboot, it takes effect right away.

    Cheers! :)

ps I ran Regedit prior to the search and it found only five stranded entries. It missed the others.
pps. Even if you reinstall it and then disable the integration and context menu add-on, then uninstall, it still leaves them on the menu bar and in the Registry.

Great...I did what you suggested & it worked.

That's the first time I have deleted anything from the Registry & I was nervous.

I once ran System Mecanic & deleted doubled up files.........darn thing had to go to the shop after that. That was in my early days. :D

I downloaded the BHO that 'mflynn' suggested but have not run it yet. It looks like I may not need to now!

    Thanks all for you help.

I will now go & post the 'fix' on another couple of forums that I had placed the problem, so that the people who had offered suggestions, can know the 'fix' themselves.

    Cheers.

    Hey Fart

System Mechanic is an excelent program! But I always reccomend not running duplicate file find( Any dupe finder) cleanup!

Confine your self to document files or other files you are familiar with if you run these! If it says windows or \program files or xxx.exe oxxx.dll you better know what you are doing!

Even I have a little trouble picking the dupe to leave! Very dangerous if trying to cleanup system files!

The BHO program will help in the future but Zephyrs solution is better because of the registry cleaning!
