I've just bought myself a new Benq 22" monitor (G2222HDL) which, I've got to say, has a pretty impressive picture.... when I can get it to stay on.

Every now and then (with the stable time between 20 seconds and a few minutes) my monitor will flip to a black screen for half a second to a second, then go back to the proper picture. I thought it was a dodgy DVI cable but I've swapped it and it's still doing the same thing. I've tried it with a VGA cable and it seems relatively stable but the picture clarity isn't as good.

I'm on Windows 7 x64 and an ATI x1600 card. Anybody else have the same problem or have a solution? Does anyone know if the graphics card can be the problem rather the the monitor 'cos it would be a real pain to send this thing back?

Just for reference.... the picture has been stable for 10 minutes until this sentence and whilst writing it, it has gone black twice.

    Many thanks.

Try a lower resolution and that resolution should be in the same ratio as the native screen resolution. (Do you know the native screen resolution?) The graphics card might be having trouble running the resolution you have set now. (Have you changed it from the settings for your old monitor?)

I would try the monitor on another computer. That will tell you if it is the monitor, or the computer/graphics solution.

Sorry for the late reply guys.... ended up working away. Just as an update to to my post:

I tried the monitor on another machine (laptop) with a HDMI-DVI adapter which for some reason wouldn't hit the native resolution but the picture was stable. I tried a lower resolution on my desktop and the picture was stable. After playing about between two different graphics cards - ATI 1600, Nvidia 8800GTS and three different OS - XP, 7, Fedora I still can't pinpoint the problem.

XP and 7 on the ATI will create the blinking effect at the native resolution via DVI. Fedora is stable. The Nvidia is stable on all three and everything runs fine through the VGA cable.

I've only been back a week and not had chance to test much more or look into it any further but a mate has just ordered the same screen so we'll see if that operates the same weird way.

    Thanks for your patience folks.
