I found three instances of csrss.exe on my computer which was causing popup spam messages. I thought perhaps a hacker had gotten into my system. I found the three files in the WINNT folder and I renamed all three of them _csrss.exe and rebooted. Now my computer won't boot. Is there a way I can get into DOS and rename the three files so it will work again? I'm stuck. Please email me directly asasp. Thanks. Any help is appreciated.

You don't say what OS you're running but I'll assume 2000 or XP.

    Csrss.exe:
This is the user-mode portion of the Win32 subsystem (with Win32.sys being
the kernel-mode portion). Csrss stands for client/server run-time subsystem
and is an essential subsystem that must be running at all times. Csrss is
responsible for console windows, creating and/or deleting threads, and some
parts of the 16-bit virtual MS-DOS environment.

Off the top of my head I'd say visit bootdisk.com and make a bootdisk. If your drives are formatted as NTFS make sure you can read them. If they're FAT32 you'll probably be OK.

This page will walk you through making a bootdisk (I haven't read it in detail, just scanned it)

I'm thinking you'll be needing a ration of this.

    Good luck! :)
