    Hello folks,

I've got a bit of a basic problem that I can't seem to figure out. My fiancee's little brother is not allowed on the internet. Being the go-to guy for tech support, I've been given the task of restricting his account from internet access. The machine he is using is a laptop running Windows 7 64-bit. I have tried the following:

    - Parental controls via Windows 7: Somehow he has bypassed this, quite possibly using the same method he thwarted the second thing I've tried.

    - Parental controls via router settings: The router is able to block based on machine, thereby restricting internet connection entirely to that machine.

    - Program Access control: Trying to limit access to even Firefox or Chrome, he's been able to click through the options and get it working.

He's still getting online, probably through an unsecured network, which is dangerous and looping around the roadblocks that I tried to set up. Short of opening up his laptop and ripping out the wireless hardware, is there anything more civil that can be done? Thanks for helping!

How about uninstalling the wifi card itself ? Would only work if Win 7 has no inbuilt driver.

From the looks of it, it seems that he logs in as Administrator or is in Administrator group. Change the password on the computer of Administrator & make sure his login is a Standard User.

Well, I guess it depends on how smart this kid is but, you could try setting his network adapter settings to static ones. Set his IP address to a phony one, 1.1.1.1 will do. Set the submask and default gateway to the same and then the dns server to 127.0.0.1. Actually, any one of these settings by itself (not sure about the IP though) should break his internet connection.

To set them, control panel>network and sharing center, click on change adapter settings. Then right click on the wireless adapter, and select properties. Click on Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/v4), then click on the properties button.

It's not hard to get around it because all you need to do to fix it is go back in there and set things to automatic again so, like I said, it all depends on how smart he is.

Otherwise, perhaps you can disable the wireless adapter in the bios and set a password on the bios so he can't get in to change it. He can get around that easy enough too I suppose if he's smart enough but, it's something you can try.

If he can get around those things, well, I don't know. Laptops are easy to pick up and carry away. Just as easy for you to carry away as it is for him. That's about the only other suggestion I can come up with. ;)

Well you go to Tractor Supply and buy a riding crop. When you catch him on it, use the riding crop on him. The problem with todays world, NO ADULT SUPERVISION.
