When I download my Prediction League table from the Website the language fails to display properly, the language is set correctly to English and to be read with MS Word but this does not happen. A file conversion box appears containing "gobbledegook" and this shows the language as Western European, why I don`t know? I cannot change this in the list provided by the box.
I am using WINDOWS VISTA, any ideas to fix this will be appreciated.

Try searching on their website for "troubleshooting" or system requirements. Check if you have the system requirements they need for their "calculator" (predictor? :)).

I expect Western European should work, there seems to be something else involved if you get gobbledegook. I am not sure what you mean by "file conversion box" though. If it wants to "convert" something, think about what software might be trying to do the conversion. Does it belong to another program? Do you have any language conversion programs installed? Check in Regional and Language Settings in Control Panel.

Thanks for your reply, I am having some difficulty getting my head around this. I did not say that the problem is only on my LAPTOP, it opens ok on my Desktop PC. Furthermore on the site to which I refer there are 4 links and 3 of them open ok, just the one is troublesome. It differs from the other 3 in that it is a table, maybe constructed in MS EXCEL or similar.
I will have another go at it and see if I can either solve it or explain the problem more clearly.

    OK, good.

You will need to tell or show us how the gobbledegook looks. Does it show the cells of the table or just lots of characters? Are there any English words in the gobbledegook? Can you identify another language like French, Russian, an Asian language?

A lot of non-standard items are run by Java script. You might need to upgrade Java. Windows has Java or there is Sun Java. Windows updates their Java with Windows Updates. If you have Sun Java there will be an icon in Control Panel. Check both computers. Sometimes you will get a separate box/window pop up that says something like "Java Script Void (0)" in the bottom left-hand corner, that's a Java script box.

Something else that might (possibly?) be a factor is Adobe Flashplayer. You can update it at the Adobe website.

I know you are saying it is like MS Excel, but you don't need Excel for things on the internet, so don't think Excel is a factor.

I will move this thread to the Internet Explorer forum, let us know if you are not using IE as the browser. The system is Windows XP, what Service Pack do you have? EDIT: I just see
but the thread was started in the Windows XP forum.

    Browsing Download

I still have the problem despite installing Adobe Flashplayer and updating Java.
I have taken a screenshot of the gobbledegook but cant figure out how to send it for your perusal, please advise.

Only Contributing Members can post attachments - the workaround is to post on a photo hosting site and post the URL here.

This is not an IE issue - it is an MS Word issue - thread moved to Other Software with title edit.

What version of Office is installed on the laptop? the file you are trying to open is Word 2007 or later - .docx

If your version of Word is part of Office 2003 then you need to install Microsoft File Format Converters, which will allow Office 2003 to open XML based documents created with Office 2007, 2010 & 2011.
