I have Windows 7 on my computer. Can anyone tell me the purpose of the "num lock" key on the keyboard? When should I turn it off and when should I turn it on? Thank you very much. Stang

On the right hand side of your keyboard you'll see a numeric keypad which also doubles as functions (cursor movement, home, end etc) when numlock is on the keypad outputs the numbers, when off it outputs the functions.

As for usage it's your own preference but when entering large amounts of numeric data most people find the numeric keypad quicker than the number keys at the top of your keyboard.
