No Broadband without outgoing 'phone call.

Just had an interesting phenomenom occur. I could not get a Broadband connection through Telecom using Thomson ADSL2 Modem/Router - unless I made an outside telephone call.
After spending some 3½ hours trying to get hold of a human being at Telecom to getsome help, the guy suggested trying another line filter between 'phone jack and PC.
Hey presto, we're back on Broadband without having to make an outside landline call. This was weird, and had the Techo scratching his head.
Anyone else experienced a similar fault?

I'll definitely make sure to keep spare line filters on hand. There were no extraneous noises on phones - just no Broadband connection. Neil.

 

I used to work in a call centre for BB technical help Neil and have to admit I never came across this but many issues were due to faulty/incorrectly installed filters. A good idea to keep a few spares handy

 

We learn something new every day. Nice to know it was a little unique problem.

I've noticed since installing the new line filter that my connection is very much quicker. Whether this is due to the late hour here and probably not too many browsers awake - I don't know but I'll keep a check on the connection speed tomorrow.
