Try Start>All Programs>Default Programs>Associate a File Type. Follow the prompts to change the association from whatever to MS Office

In Associate file types scroll down to .wps - Microsoft Works Word Processor, highlight it and click on Change Program and select Word and check the box 'Always use .....'

You must, of course, have Word installed :)

Orb (Start) > type into Search Box file association and click on 'Make a file type always open in a specific program'

In the window which opens scroll down to .wps, highlight it, click on Select Program > Select Word and OK out.
