so I just was given an lcd and wanted to set up dual display on my W7 32bit desktop, i am using an ati radeon 3600 series graphics card, it has both dvi and vga, my main monitor an acer 19in lcd is connected to the dvi. I beleive I have set everything up, I went into screen resolution, the second display is detected and set up but shows no picture, it flashes on for a second then goes off, when I extend the mouse off screen it disappears so I know it is working but I have no picture. please help. thanks

    kiddk,

This may seem obvious but since you've only just received the monitor have you verified it actually works on another system? And are you using a screen resolution compatible with the monitor?

Also, although you've given us the manufacturer of the working display but it could be helpful if you tell us the make/model of the problem one.

it is a scepture DCL9A, the screen does come on but only for a second, I will test on another system, it is in the device manager and it show as working properly, I have the resolution set to the recommended method which different from the other monitors resolution 1280 x ??? compared to 1440 x ??? could this be the issue?

Unfortunately Device Manager isn't that intelligent (eg if your backlight failed DM would still say the device is working).

Testing on another system would be my next step as well, Please let us know how it goes.

Unlikely, if you check my specs you'll see I run two displays at different resolutions without issue.

You could also try looking for a later driver for your card.

well I tried it alone on another system, it flashed on for a second then lost the picture, the led indication light is on but no pic. if it was defective wouldnt it not give a picture at all, even for a split second?

p.s when the pc is off the led is flashing, once I power on the pc the led turns solid.

Pretty sure it's defective kiddk, the failure with the 2nd system would appear to confirm it.

After a quick google it would appear that a few others have had the same issue due to defective capacitors. You could try to repair it if you're handy with a soldering iron though I cannot confirm if yours is the same problem, only that the symptoms are the same.
