I was given a old Dell c540, it works great, but I have got bitten twice by BB since I got it.

I caught one crawling out of my laptop that I kept on the floor big mistake) and have seen a few dead ones around it. I had read heat will dry them out and they will leave. The two dead ones looked pretty dry so I let it run all day in a confined area (plastic box) hoping to chase them out but no luck.

I Googled my problem and read many tips any where from removing the monitor and putting it in a freezer for three week, to putting in my clothes dryer using a home made bracket to hang it from, and see if heat would chase them out.

Also told to try chemicals, smoke, powders etc.

All of these and other things to try were just suggestions. Though appreciated.

What I am looking for is some other poor soul that has had this problem and solved it.

I would like take it apart on the bench, being careful not to let any get away, if I found any BB, but I have a herniated disk in my lumbar and can no longer do any bench work or much else, until I decide if I want to try surgery.

    Opinions please......

I thought April 1st had arrived early when I read this, but my suggestion would be to place the laptop on a electric blanket on low heat and see if you can attract the critters out.
My theory would be that BB's are attracted to the warmth of your body - so leaving a cold (switched off) laptop sitting on warmth should have the same effect.
You could pay a pest destroyer to seal the laptop in plastic and gas them.
I'm itching just thinking about your problem. Cheers Neil.

There are several solutions that will work.

I would not advise freezing or using high heat either.

It seems the easiest and best is to put the laptop in a plastic bag along with some mothballs or spray the inside of the bag with bedbug repellant you can buy at a hardware store or pharmacy. Get the newer type mothballs, not the old-fashioned type.

You may have to repeat if there are eggs in the laptop.

My laptop once has a very small spider behind the display. It drove me batty for a couple weeks until it somehow managed to escape.

At first I thought this thread was a joke, but oh no! Nasty little bugs in a computer, thats very disturbing.
About getting them out of the laptop, isnt putting the laptop in to a freezer absolutely inadvisable? I think the harddrive could be damaged, I remember reading a specsheet about some HD, and it said (I´m quite sure) the storage temperature should be kept well above 32 F.

Gary, I think you will have to try one of the suggestions and report back as to which one worked.
You are obviously in a quandry as to what method to try - I would go with sealing the laptop in a plastic bag in which you will have sprayed some effective BB killer.
The unknown factor will be how to deal with the dead bugs inside the laptop. I know I have the ability to pull a laptop apart and clean it out and reassemble it.
You may have to consider this after killing the bugs. Let's know how you get on. All the best. Neil.;)
