I'm having an issue with a Dell Inspirion 1525 laptop. During the update process, the laptop hung at 43 percent for 3 hours. I had no option but to power the unit off and back on even at the do not power unit off message. I logged into safe mode and scheduled a chkdsk, but at stage 4 verifying file data, the laptops frezzes and I need to shut down again. The OS, which is Vista Home Edition did load to the log in screen, but freezes after entering the password.
I suspect a problem with the Toshiba MK2555GSX 250 GB drive.
I'm surfing the net for a diagnostic program to run on the drive, but can't seem to locate one, any suggestions?
    Thank you,
    Brimis

I ran the Dell Diagnostics which are stored on the hard drive and the system passed all tests.

Check out the drive using the manufacturer's disk diagnostics:

Well if you can believe this, considering the laptop holds just music, I reinstalled Vista and installed all the updates and the laptop is fine.
I would have not thought it to be the OS.
    Thank you,
    Brimis
